AA, Al-Anon, and NA Meetings in Canon City, Colorado

The overdose rate in Fremont County is on the rise. It’s time to get our family members and friends the help they need. The 12-Step meetings in Canon City can help.

Fremont County is one of the least-populated regions in all of Colorado. With less than 50,000 residents, its size pales in comparison to other counties in the state.

But, it has a drug problem that’s nearly as bad as that in other counties. According to local officials, there are far more residents are using heroin today than there were only a few years ago.

It’s causing problems in the community, too. As Mike O’Rourke, the county’s Chief Probation Officer points out, roughly 60 to 70 percent of Fremont’s crimes are motivated by drugs. The majority of robberies and property crimes that happen in the small county are committed by people who are trying to get money for heroin.

Of course, people are dying, as well. According to local officials, crystal meth and heroin overdose deaths have doubled every year since 2015.

So, it’s apparent that the community has a problem.

But luckily, help is available.

There are a number of local addiction resources that can help addicts get clean before it’s too late. The AA and NA meetings in Canon City, for example, support addicts throughout the recovery journeys.

If you or a loved one is currently struggling with drug addiction or alcoholism, one of these meetings may be able to help you. Read on for more information and a list of local meetings.

Narcotics Anonymous: Fighting Addiction in Canon City

Narcotics Anonymous is a worldwide organization that offers free support sessions to anyone who struggles with drug addiction. All meetings are free and most of them are open to the public.

This group operates by introducing addicts to the Twelve Steps, a systematic approach to getting clean. Throughout the process, the addicts work to confront their past behaviors, apologize to the people they’ve harmed, and develop healthy ways of managing stress.

Although it doesn’t work for everyone, many people credit NA for helping them to turn their life around.

There are a ton of meetings in Fremont County. These meetings take place every day of the week in community centers, churches, and school cafeterias.

So, if you are currently struggling with a substance abuse problem and want to change, these meetings could help you do so.

Alcoholics Anonymous: Battling Colorado’s Drinking Problem

Colorado’s skyrocketing overdose rate isn’t its only problem. In fact, the Keystone State has quite the issue with alcohol, too.

According to data published by the Colorado Department of Transportation, nearly 650 residents died in a drunk-driving accident last year. This is a huge upswing from years prior.

Furthermore, hundreds of people continue to lose their lives to alcohol-induced diseases like alcohol poisoning, liver disease, pancreatic cancer, and others.

In order to prevent these deaths, it’s important to connect our fellow Coloradans with the proper resources. Fortunately, there are plenty of AA meetings in Canon City that can help.

Similar to NA meetings, these meetings help alcoholics to overcome their dependency on booze. While it doesn’t work for everyone, many people consider this 12-Step group to be a life-changing experience.

Are you looking for a meeting near you? Well, we’ve got a list of local groups right here! Check it out!

Please note: Some meetings are marked “closed”. These sessions are open only to committed members of the organization. If you’d like to attend one of these meetings, you should go to a few open ones, first.

Al-Anon: Canon City’s Family Support Network

The addict isn’t the only person who is affected by their addiction. Oftentimes, the family members and friends of the addict suffer just as bad.

After all, it’s quite difficult to watch a child, parent, or spouse struggle with a substance abuse habit. It can make us feel overwhelmed and isolated. It can generate feelings of fear, sadness, and anger.

So, Al-Anon provides a place where the people who love addicts can go and offer mutual support to one another. In these meetings, individuals discuss their feelings and work toward developing a sense of self that isn’t dominated by their loved one’s behavior.

This program is completely free and open to the public. Members welcome newcomers with open arms.

Alateen: A Resource for Young People

Alateen is similar to Al-Anon in that it provides the family members of addicts with a support network. However, they differ in the sense that this group caters specifically to teenagers.

The topic of addiction, after all, is a tough one to talk about. So, this group attempts to address it in a way that is slightly easier for young people to manage.

Unfortunately, there’s only one meeting in the area at the moment. Information is listed below:

9:00 AM
Alateen Hope for Today
Son Rise Methodist Church
421 East Spaulding Avenue
Pueblo West, Colorado 81007

The meeting is open to any young person who is struggling with the effects of a loved one’s addiction.

If you or a teen in your life is looking for support but you can’t make it to the meeting listed above, talk to your local Al-Anon meeting coordinator about the possibility of them joining an adult meeting.
